Guidos
Open on Sunday
Guidos Restaurant is now open on Sundays from 3-10pm. They have excellent food and their patio area was remodeled earlier this year and is lovely. Guidos is on the main oceanfront street, Avenida Rafael Melgar and it is between Calle 6 and Calle 8. They have been open on Cozumel since 1978 and they serve a variety of dishes from pastas to pizza and delicious seafood, beef and chicken entrees. Their pizza is
baked in a wood fired oven and they have a full bar. |

The Burger House is a small place and a local.one, but you can get a delicious hamburger or even a bacon cheeseburger with a nice sized patty of good beef cooked to your order for only 65 pesos (less than $6 U.S.) and that price even includes fries. You can also add toppings like pineapple or peach, and if you like, things like ham, chorizo or pepperoni.
I had a regular bacon cheese burger with lettuce and tomatoes last time. I ordered mine to go and then watched him cook it on a grill over flames. Next time I may ask him to put chorizo (Mexican sausage) or pepperoni on it.
The Burger House opens about 4 in the afternoon, and the décor is very basic. There are the plain white plastic tables and chairs and nothing fancy, but the hamburgers are very good and a good value. I’ll be going back again.
The Burger House is on Ave. Juarez at the corner of Ave. 55.
UPDATE: Sorry to say but the Burger House is no longer here. |

The Funky Bazaar
Here you’ll find an assortment of women’s clothing, accessories like jewelry purses and there are even decorating items for your home. I’ve seem lamps, pillows and
many other interesting items and the prices are quite
reasonable. They are on Ave. Xel Ha (Calle 15) at the corner of Ave. 25. |

Mosaicoz
This restaurant is in the main square downtown pedestrian area. It’s on Ave. 5 at the corner of Calle 1. They are normally open for both lunch and dinner 7 days a week. Their pizzas are quite good but so is their Mexican food. Recently we ordered a Mexican platter and shared it, and it was excellent.
You will often see the owner, Bianca there, visiting with the regular customers and meeting new ones. |

If you like really hot sauce, ask for their salsa habanero. Yes, it is HOT, but also quite flavorful.
To quench the fire from a hot spicy sauce, they do serve beer. |
 |
There is one pizza that is not on the menu, but they will make it for you if you asked. It’s called Wilma and was named after the hurricane in 2005. Yes,
it is wild and powerful. |

Mexican Decor
If you are looking for hand made items or Mexican home
decorating items at a reasonable price, stop and take a look at this store on Ave.
65, just north of Calle 11. There you'll find lots of different items.
There are small pieces of furniture, ceramic water jugs and stands, talavera wall
décor and lamps. I recently purchased a rustic clothes rack (quite useful) and a decorative piece I’m fond of that is a parrot made of painted leather on a wooden stand. |

Orchids

|
About 4 years ago, a friend gave me several young orchid plants. She told me that it might be a couple of years before they would blooms. She explained which ones to plant in the ground and the ones that I should secure to a tree where they should grow best.
All but one of the orchid plants are still alive, but until a few weeks ago, none had ever bloomed. Then one morning while watering the yard I noticed that the orchid that has been securely nestled in the big bougainvillea plant had sprouted buds. I watched it for several weeks and was thrilled when the first bloom opened and was soon followed by
five or six more. These blooms are very small, but they are lovely and the blooms have now lasted for over a month. That was a treat worth waiting for. |

EXCHANGE RATE
During May, the exchange rate that we saw at the money exchanges and the banks when changing dollars into pesos on Cozumel varied from
12 to 12.5 pesos to the U.S. dollar.
Gracias y hasta luego,
