GoCozumel Monthly Newsletter, June
2009
Our newsletter is a personal look at the island, written by an American
who moved to Cozumel in May 2000.
Sunday brunch and bowling
It’s great family fun and a terrific price. The big bowling alley (Carribean
Bol) is now offering a Sunday brunch for only 60 pesos, (at the current exchange rate that’s
around $5 U.S.) and along with that you get to bowl for one hour free. Now that’s a bargain! The brunch and bowling
special is between 11am and 3pm each Sunday.
Caribbean Bol is located at Calle 13 Sur #17 between Av. Gonzalo Guerrero and Ave. 5a. |

|
My family had some difficulty finding the building as it has been re-painted,
and right now there is no sign to let people know that this is the bowling
alley. |

It’s an Adventure
 |
You can fly through the air on a zip-line, course between towers on a suspended bridge, climb one of the 4 towers and rappel off the highest climbing tower in Mexico. Then cool off with a guided snorkeling tour at a stunning beachside location.
After all that adventure, you may want to just sit back with a cold drink or get something to eat at the beachside bar and restaurant,
Buccanos. Later, you can lounge by the pool in the sun.
The adventure park zip-line and snorkel tour lasts about 3 hours, but you are welcome to hang out and relax at this beachside location for the rest of the day. |
|
This adventure tour can be found by driving north on the oceanfront road, and after you pass lots of condo buildings, about ½ mile past Las Brisas condominium you will see a stone sign on the left that says “Buccanos” and it has a fish on it. Under that is says “Club Cozumel
Caribe”. Turn to your left there, and by now you should be able to see the climbing towers. At the guard house, turn to the right, and drive past the large building and you will see the climbing towers on your left. |

|
| Drive just past those, park your car and then just head into the building and ask where you can join the adventure. I’m told that they begin the tours as early as 8am and the cost is $55 U.S. if you come directly to their location and don’t need transportation from town or from one of the cruise ship piers. I’d suggest going out a day in advance to make reservations and to check what times they have groups scheduled for the next day.
This zip-line snorkel tour adventure is one I haven’t experienced first hand yet, but I did see all the folks having fun when I went to Buccanos Restaurant for breakfast.
An excellent breakfast and in a beautiful setting. Bucannos is not cheap, but it’s a good value for what they offer. They began breakfast for each of us with a small fruit plate for starters, then my order came. I selected the omelet with bacon, avocado and manchego cheese. I had a small glass of fresh squeezed orange juice and coffee. The total was $9.50 U.S. and well worth it.

Plumbing and Electrical Supply Store
|
A new plumbing and electrical supply store has opened, and it’s only a few blocks north of the store,
Boxito, that is also on Ave. 65 and at the corner of Calle Morelos. The new store is on Ave. 65, between Ave. Rosado Salas and
Calle. 1. When I went to look for a new bathroom sink in early June, Boxito did not have one large enough so I went to
Niplito. They were open, but did not have a great deal on display although I did find a nice large sink for my bathroom.
By late June they did have a lot more in stock, however Boxito still has more. |
New Burger King
In a new shopping center on Ave. 30 at the corner of Calle 1 there is a big, new Burger King complete with a drive thru. |

Passenger Ferry Pier has been remodeled
The remodeling of the passenger ferry pier that takes passengers between Cozumel
and Playa del Carmen seems to have been completed. There is now a drive through
area where you can pull in to let people out.
