Christmas on Cozumel (or New Years)
This is the time of year that many are considering a holiday vacation to Cozumel as a family Christmas
gift. If you are, we recommend that you make reservations soon, both the flights and accommodations.
Here’s a few tips to help find the best airfare:
-
Check on charters that fly to either Cozumel or Cancun and see about air-only tickets. Getting from Cancun to Cozumel is not expensive, and if you can save money by booking a flight to Cancun instead it could be worth it.
-
Be sure to check the regular scheduled airlines. American, Continental, Delta, United, Northwest, Frontier and a number of other airlines fly to Cozumel and some of those also fly to Cancun. Check rates for flights to both cities.
-
Often you can get a better rate if you are willing to fly on a holiday date (on Christmas Day or New Years Day)
-
In general the rates for Christmas week are
usually a bit lower than for New Years week.

The Best Rates for Accommodations In
general, the lowest rates for vacation rental villas and condos
are in the fall. We'd suggest checking the rates for dates after Thanksgiving week but before mid December. |
 |
For example: How about a private 4 bedroom 4 bath home for up to 8 guests that is loaded with amenities.
There's a privacy fence around the property, a private swimming pool, tropical garden, gas grill, palapa covered patio with hammocks,
living/dining areas, TVs, cable, free wireless internet, air
conditioning and even a washer and dryer. All this for up to 8 guests is only $1,695/wk*
and maid service is 6 days a week during the fall discount season |
| If a 4 bedroom is too large, how about a 2 bedroom 2
bath with a private pool, internet, garden, gas grill, patio, TV,
cable, air conditioning and a washer and dryer for $850/wk* for up to
4 guests during the fall discount season
These rates include maid service 6 days a week |

|
 |
If you prefer oceanfront,
consider a luxurious 4 bedroom condo with a private oceanfront terrace
for $2,475/wk*,
a 3 bedroom - $1,925/wk*
a 2 bedroom - $1,595/wk*. |

|
|
*These are fall discount or low season rates.
Rates during high season or at Christmas and New Years week are
higher.
In addition the the rental rates here are also local fees plus a refundable
security deposit If you'd like more information

Where is Jeanie’s Waffle House?
If you are looking for the original Jeanie’s Waffle House, Jeanie is on Cozumel but she doesn’t call her restaurant that any more. Jeanie has now opened her restaurant on Ave. Juarez between Ave. 25 and Ave. 30. |
 |
|
It’s in the building that also houses the local hotel called La Casona
Real. Avenue Juarez is one way going east, so you’ll see the building
on the left. It's the one painted a dark orange color.
The restaurant is now called Jeanie and Cody’s restaurant. Jeanie is there and
they serve the same great food they did when she was originally on the oceanfront street years ago. |

Blockbuster video rental and sales
If you’ve stopped at Jeanie’s for breakfast or lunch, why not make a stop at the big Blockbuster video store that is very nearby. They have DVDs to rent but they often have them for save too. I tend to stop by once every few months to take a look at what’s for sale. Most prices on the sale DVDs range from 59 to 139 pesos each (between $5 to $11.50 U.S.), but quite often they have a buy one get one free or a buy 2 get 1 free. (The sign for the buy 2 get 1 free says “3 x 2”). |
| Most of the DVDs have audio in English, but I always check to make certain that English is one of the language options. If you do stop by to browse through the sale DVDs, plan to spend some time as it can take a while to look through all they offer. However, I’ve found some real gems there at great prices. When I buy instead of rent, I can watch them when ever I want to and never have to worry about returning anything. However, if you prefer renting, I believe they have some specials on certain days, so check that out. |

Canada Shoe Store
Also on Avenue Juarez, this shoe store has some nice
sandals and some that are very comfortable. I've bought several pair here, and they are not as cheap as some of the other shoe stores, but
the quality has been good and the sandals more comfortable. |

|
|
I've even been able to find some nice sandals with a small wedge heel that are quite comfortable for walking shoes.
Athletic shoes with socks may be fine for playing tennis and such but wearing shoes and socks
is a little too hot for every day. |

Magic of Design
If you are looking for furniture or home decorating items, stop in at The Magic of Design. I love to go and look at the goodies she has, and now and then I find something I fall in love with. Luh is a designer, and if you'd prefer to have her do your decorating for you she can take care of that.
The Magic of Design is on Ave. 30, at the corner of Calle 2 North and they are upstairs. Hours are Mon-Fri from 9am to 5pm and on Saturday from 9am-2pm. If you want to call before going by, the number
is 869-1415 |

EXCHANGE RATE
During June, the exchange rate that we saw at the money exchanges and the banks when changing dollars into pesos on Cozumel varied from
11.6 to 11.8 pesos to the U.S. dollar.
