GoCozumel Monthly Newsletter, July 2010
Our newsletter is a personal look at the island, written by an American
who moved to Cozumel in May 2000.

OXXO stores
There are now quite of few OXXO convenience stores on Cozumel. There are
at least 2 on Ave. 30. One is at the corner of Avenue 30 and Calle 19 and another
is on Ave. 30 just south of Ave. Juarez. |

Dominos Pizza
If you get hungry for fast food and you're a fan of Domino's Pizza, you'll be glad to know that there is one on Cozumel. It's on Ave. 30 at the corner of Rosado Salas. Other U.S. franchises that are here on Cozumel include
Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Burger Kings and a Starbucks. |

Chiropractor
There are a couple of chiropractors on Cozumel, and the one I’ve been to a number of times is Scott Kircher. His
office is on Ave. 5 between Calle 3 and Calle 5 near the downtown main
square. I’ve gone to Scott a number of times as have many of my friends. In addition to easing pains in my back and neck, he has also helped by teaching me what exercises to do and which muscles to strengthen so that the pain does not return. |

Aluminum Framed Doors, Screens and Windows
For aluminum framed windows, screen doors, sliding glass doors and accordion hurricane shutters Julian Aluminum is a company that I have purchased items from several times, including having them build and install some of the hurricane shutters on my home about 6 or 7 years ago. They came out recently to repair one section of a hurricane shutter that was not working
quite right and they were able to repair it and replace the one small panel that would not work correctly for quite a reasonable price. |

They are now located on Calle 1, just east of Ave. 30. That’s very near the shopping center where the big Burger King is
located |

Delicious empanadas
There was a very small restaurant on Ave. 5 between Calle 2 and Calle 4 that made the most delicious Argentinean empanadas. Now and then I’d stop by and pick up an order to go as they only had one table outside and one inside. Now, in August they will be opening at the corner of Calle 3 and Ave. 5. |
|
I’m so pleased that they will still be here. If you have tried local empanadas but you are not fond of them (they can be pretty greasy) then you should try these Argentinean empanadas as they are completely different. The covering is much more like pastry, and although they tell me that they are deep fried they are not at all greasy. Just a lovely pastry with delicious fillings.
At the right are a list of just some of the fillings |
|
Chicken
Cheese and onion
Cheese, basil and tomato
Cheese and chorizo
Cheese, bacon and plumb
Beef
Ham and cheese
And even dessert empanadas. |

EXCHANGE RATE
During July, the exchange rate that we saw at the money exchanges and the banks when changing dollars into pesos on Cozumel varied from
11.6 to 11.8 pesos to the U.S. dollar. Currently, the grocery stores Mega and
Chedraui have been giving an exchange rate of 12.5 pesos for every U.S.
dollar.
Gracias y hasta luego,
